Styrofoam Printmaking

• A form of relief printing


Learning Goal

  1. learning the basic techniques of relief printmaking

  2. monoprint is a one kind print achieved by applying coloured inks to a smooth surface and transferring that image to paper (e.g., Gaugin, Rembrandt, and Degas)

  3. although prints are a copy each print is unique


How To Do Styrofoam Printmaking


  1. 1First cut the edges off of the trays so that you have a flat surface to work on.

  2. 2Next, draw an image onto the tray using a pencil.

  3. 3Remember, your printed image will appear in reverse!

  4. 4Follow the printing with a brayer directions.

       (found on the Printmaking 102 page)

  5    You could instead use a paintbrush to cover

        over the styrofoam with paint or ink, lay the

        paper overtop, press lightly and voila.


  6    Repeat until you have an edition of prints.
